Jim Caldwell and Jefferson Snider (Jeff is the guy intently tying on flies in the first three shots) in the upper parking lot at the Green River just below the Flaming Gorge Reservoir. The photos were taken May 11, 2007 on the third day of a three day trip. The river runs east out of the reservior, on this day we crossed and fished down the south bank from the end of the trail descending from the upper parking lot. If you do this youself, you need to be prepared for a long and rugged hike out if the flows are increased. In these photos the flow is around 800 cfs. In the morning I fished a two fly rig consisiting of a size 24 midge emerger (silver glass-bead with a black body and silver wire ribbing) and a blue-green micro-scud as the bottom fly. By noon they were taking dries, I had some real fun fishing a size 22 Adams with the wings and tail cut off. I caught 16 trout between 10 AM and 4 PM. For a sense of scale, the net is a Brodin Steelhead net which has an 13x18" opening. Most trout were between 14" and 16" and I caught one 19" brown on a dry after I ran out of film. |
